Welcome to hats by sherry

History

There has always been some form of head wearing from a variety of materials giving fundamental protection from the elements. Headwear could also signify belonging to a group, or reflect social distinctions.

The word Milliner (the maker of women’s hats) came from Milan.
Millinery is an art form and developed with burgeoning civilisations.
Blocking a variety of materials (parasisal, sinamay, Italian Straw etc.) by hand on wooden millinery blocks in stylish shapes mixing and matching crowns and brims, decreasing or increasing size and shape to create an item of beauty that will express and flatter the wearer, will also enhance her image.

The 1980’s and 1990’s has seen an increase in the interest of hats and designers. The late Princess Diana became a fashion leader, which helped the hat’s revival.

In fashion terms the hat is a most important accessory, making a powerful statement.

Large scale production of hats in England has declined. Designers and small factories have been emerging, pushing hat designs that are more creative and artisitic than before.
